A three-day workshop on 'Capacity Building on Climate Change Issues' concluded on Sunday amidst a program at the Airport Hotel in Kathmandu. The workshop was organized by The Everest Network (TEN) with the participation of 17 member organizations from all over Nepal. The entire workshop was all about how to cope with and adapt to the rising issues of climate change. As climate change is one of the burning issues of global concern, many presenters and participants shared their views emphasizing the dark side of climate change and tackling them before it gets worst. Dr. Deepak Rijal from Tribhuvan University shared knowledge about causes of rising temperature and adaptation, sectoral impacts, climate-induced hazards, and LAPA (Local Adaptation Plans for Action) that was introduced in 2011 and implemented in Sudur Paschim and Karnali. Following the principle of the bottom-up approach which has to be inclusive and climate emergency, LAPA has been considered one of the best approaches to adjust to the changing climate at the local level. Similarly, the session on inclusive values and sustainable participatory methods of learning was given by Bimal Phuyal. In his session he explained that the culture of dialogue should be introduced, the network has to work like a forest than working as a tree. Mr. Gopal Lama from the Just Nepal Foundation and the main organization behind this initiative opined that climate change issues should be internalized in the local context through capacity building, planning, and implementation. As the participants in the workshop, Ms. Anita Gurung and Ms. Reshma GC from ICA Nepal highlighted the importance of climate change issues at the local level of development and community building.
