A 15 metric tonne (MT) capacity cold storage was inaugurated by Rtn. Kishor Tripathi, President of Rotary Club of Rudramati Kathmandu in Sindhupalchowk district on 17 June 2023. The cold storage was recently installed in Sukute ward no. 10, Chautara Sangachowkgadi Municipality by the Rotary Club of Rudramati Kathmandu jointly with its international club partner Rotary Club of Denver Mile High. The installation was financially supported by the Rotary International. A number of Rotary Clubs mainly including Rotary Club of Parker-Cherry Creek Valley, Rotary Club of Golden, Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch (Littleton), Rotary Club of Parker, Rotary Club of Denver Cherry Creek, Rotary Club of Keystone Heights, DDF 5450, Rotary Club of Denver, Rotary Club of Boulder, Rotary Club of Boulder Valley, Rotary Club of Denver Southeast contributed directly or indirectly to project.
During the inauguration ceremony, community leaders Dr. Binod Nepal acknowledged the effort of Rotary Clubs for their noble initiation of installing the mini cold storage in Sindhupalchowk. This cold storage is intended to serve local farmers to preserve the fruits and vegetables for extended sales and prevent produce wastages. There are a total of three chambers, of which one is completely run by solar power, said Dr. Eng. Gangadhar Chowdhary during the ceremony. Ceremony President Mr. Gobinda Katel, who is also the chair for the management committee of the cold storage acknowledging the club’s effort requested for regular monitoring and guidance for smooth operation of the cold storage. President Rtn. Tripathi appreciated the initiation of Rtn. Ishu Subba, Community Service Project Chair and all other club members who contributed to the project in various capacities. Tripathi added that Rotary International being one of the largest service organizations in the world is steered by its stated mission which is to "provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders".
The cold storage aims to serve more than 500 farmers from Chautara Sangachowkgadi Municipality and Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. In addition, the Rotary Club of Rudramati with its Cooperative Partner Rural Youth People Concern Forum also conducted skill enhancement training on regenerative agriculture, animal husbandry, etc. The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 50 local people.
